Dr. R. Seetharaman is a globally recognised economist and sustainable development leader with over four decades of experience in international banking, economic strategy, and institutional leadership. He is best known for his 15-year tenure as Chief Executive Officer of Doha Bank, during which he led the institution's international expansion and strengthened its reputation for governance excellence, sustainability-focused banking, and long-term value creation.

A Chartered Accountant and gold medallist in commerce, Dr. Seetharaman holds multiple doctoral qualifications, including a PhD in Global Governance from European University and a PhD in Green Banking & Sustainability from Sri Sri University. He is also a recipient of a Doctoral Fellowship from the Sri Sharada Institute of Indian Management (SRISIIM).

In recognition of his contributions to global finance and economic cooperation, he was awarded the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman by the Government of India in 2017 — one of the highest civilian honours for overseas Indians. He has also received several lifetime achievement and visionary leadership awards across banking, sustainability, and humanitarian initiatives.

In 2022, he founded the Seetharaman School of Sustainable Development (SSSD) , a non-profit institution dedicated to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through research, advocacy, education, and community-led initiatives. SSSD focuses on climate action, poverty alleviation, universal access to healthcare and education, and gender equity.
